Introduction: Insights from Our Entrepreneurial Journey
Our entrepreneurial journey has been filled with learning opportunities and pivotal experiences that have shaped our venture. Here's a summary of what we've learned so far, aligned with the essential criteria for successful venture development:
Hypotheses Definition
We began our journey with a clear and well-defined hypothesis: to create an information system that would address the inadequacies of Central Mindanao University's existing systems. Our goal was to develop an app and website aimed at enhancing the efficiency and security of information dissemination for students and instructors. This initial hypothesis was crafted to tackle several issues, including poor signal quality across different colleges, ineffective waste management policies, limited information flow, and various logistical challenges such as transportation, printing, and student services.
Testing Hypotheses
To test our hypotheses, we employed the following methods:
- Consultations: We consulted with knowledgeable individuals and instructors in business and technology to gain insights.
- Feedback Sessions: During these consultations, we presented our plan and gathered feedback and suggestions for improvement.
- Analysis of Results: We critically analyzed the feedback and results to identify gaps and areas of improvement in our proposal.
Our findings revealed several key issues:
The lack of novelty in developing information dissemination apps and websites due to existing solutions like Facebook.
The impracticality of an advertising business model for a startup.
The non-innovative nature of establishing artificial signal towers.
The overall low novelty of our initial idea, which was common among tech startups.
Team’s Decision
Aligning our decisions with the results from our hypothesis testing, we opted to pivot our approach significantly. We decided to shift our focus from creating new information systems to developing an AI tool that would enhance existing ones. This decision was fully in line with the feedback we received and effectively addressed the identified gaps. By doing so, we aimed to offer a more novel and impactful solution to the problems we initially set out to solve.
Team's Options
Our path forward involved considering two main options. The first option was to conduct additional interviews with more students to gather further solutions to the problems we had identified. However, given our time constraints, this option was deemed less feasible. The second option, recommended by our instructor, was to capitalize on our existing understanding of the problem and devise a more innovative solution. This led us to decide on developing an AI tool, which promised to bring a higher level of novelty and effectiveness to our venture.
Lessons Learned
Throughout this journey, we have gleaned several important lessons. Mistakes, we learned, are invaluable learning experiences that highlight deficiencies in our strategies and guide us toward better solutions. Innovation is crucial; merely replicating existing solutions is insufficient. Seeking and analyzing feedback from experts is essential for refining our ideas and ensuring they address real needs. Adaptability is key; being willing to pivot and adjust our approach based on feedback and analysis is vital for entrepreneurial success. Finally, embracing mistakes fosters resilience and a mindset geared toward continuous improvement and innovation. These lessons have prepared us to navigate future challenges and develop successful, innovative solutions that effectively meet the needs of our target market.
